Summer Madras was created to reinterpret a classic textile through a modern perspective. Madras fabric has long been associated with vibrant color, breathable comfort, and a spirit of relaxed elegance. Our goal is to carry that legacy forward while shaping it for a new generation.
Color plays a central role in the identity of Summer Madras. From soft sun-washed tones to bold seasonal palettes, our designs capture the feeling of summer in its many forms — warm days, coastal air, and moments of quiet escape.
Summer Madras is ultimately about balance: heritage and modernity, comfort and refinement, simplicity and character. Through thoughtful design and a deep appreciation for the fabric that inspires us, we create clothing meant to be worn often, lived in, and remembered.
Founded by Ridhi Agarwal, Summer Madras was born from her love of the vibrant colors and rich textile heritage of her hometown, Chennai, India.
"Chennai is hot nearly all year round, growing up my wardrobe was entirely summer clothes. I learned early on the importance of lightweight natural fabrics that keep you cool and comfortable and I'm personally so sick of seeing people buy polyester. We were never meant to wear plastic, and the only way forward was to provide an alternative.
Summer Madras is the culmination of 2 years of meticulous research and experimentation with yarns, colors, and fabrics. I hope you love wearing it as much as I loved creating it:)"
Our pride lies in the process
We believe in clothing that is made to last as we see firsthand just how much work goes into crafting each garment (one of our goals is to bring you along on as much of this journey as we can). From start to finish, we manufacture every garment in our vertical production facility in the Madras (now called Chennai) region. This allows us to oversee every step—from weaving the fabric to the final stitch ensuring quality craftsmanship that’s true to our roots.

Our fabric of choice? Madras fabric. A timeless material known for its breathability, comfort, and ability to withstand the intense heat of year-round sunshine. Madras fabric inspired us through its simplicity in fiber –100% cotton - and complexity in color.
We carried this inspiration into our other two fabrications using 100% linen and 100% cotton (in a voile weave) carrying through the bright colors and patterns that are at the core of everything we do at Summer Madras. Each piece is designed to be durable, lightweight, and wearable, making it easy to wear and love for years to come.
